When these announcements cross my desk, I sometimes worry how many people actually pay attention, especially when the end of life date is still a year away.
So I want to call attention to one of the latest Commvault End of Product/Support Life announcements: Simpana v9.0.On the first if this month, Commvault announced that Simpana v9.0 will be going end of life in exactly one year. So on April 1st, 2017, all support for that version of the product and its related agents ends.
What does this mean if you're still running Simpana v9.0? Start planning for your upgrade to Commvault's Next Generation Platform v11 (it's no longer called Simpana).
You'll also notice I skipped over Simpana v10, that's because this version is already no longer supported. Basically, if you're running anything still called Simpana, that's your clue it's time to act.
Contact your Lewan Account Executive (or if you haven't worked with us before, ) to begin the conversation now about options, how, and when you want to upgrade your backup solution. Next April might seem far off, but don't risk downtime and an unsupported version if the upgrade process takes longer than you planned. I'll put it this way:
Don't to be that guy who goes to restore data from a failed server and gets told "yeah, sorry, but that product isn't supported anymore." It's hard to image your day getting any worse than that!
Big picture, I suggest monitoring the life cycle matrix of all of your key technologies so you know when upgrades go from "that would be nice to have" to "a really good idea" to "I better do this now or else."
We can also manage your technology product and service contracts for you, so you never have to worry about lapsed version support. We'll work with you to recommend and prioritize upgrades to optimize performance and prevent downtime. to learn more about this complimentary service provided to Lewan customers.
