This year Citrix Synergy was hosted in Las Vegas, May 24-26, at the Venetian conference center. Myself and another engineer from Lewan attended and came back with our heads full of announcements, product updates and a look at what’s coming next. It’s going to be an exciting year for Citrix customers!

VMware Horizon 7 upgrade planned? Check your crypto!

Here at Lewan HQ we have a robust internal lab where we demo solutions and hardware for customers and train our team. The lab gives us the opportunity to actually touch and test products before evaluating or installing onsite for clients.

As part of our lab, we have a complete VMware Horizon Enterprise deployment with all the bells and whistles and integrated technologies from our other hardware and software partners. This allows us to do expanded testing beyond what the primary manufacturers can do.

Today that was integration testing for VMware Horizon 7, and I learned a few things I wish I'd known before I started. I hope this post saves you the time I spent troubleshooting cryptographic protocol issues and makes for a more seamless upgrade of your infrastructure!

Do you know what VMWare vSphere version you're running? If its 5.1 or below, it's time to think about upgrading so you don't lose support.

Last week I went into a customer environment to talk about infrastructure planning and found that they were on an old 4.x version of vSphere, which went end-of-general-support back in 2014, yikes!

Is your default VMware E1000 network interface (NIC) installed in a virtual machine causing problems with performance?

The best practice from VMware is to use the VMXNET3 Virtual NIC unless there is a specific driver or compatibility reason where it cannot be used. In many cases, however, the E1000 has been installed, since it is the default.
