How to Fix Applications Not Working with Citrix MCS or PVS

[fa icon="pencil'] Posted by Johnny Ma [fa icon="calendar'] December 6, 2016 [fa icon="tags'] Virtualization, Citrix, Microsoft, Managed Infrastructure & Helpdesk

I always encourage clients to use the single image management solutions provided by Citrix. When done correctly, Machine Creation Services (MCS) and Provisioning Services (PVS) deployments can significantly decrease administrative overhead of managing images.

Updating the gold/master image and deploying read-only copies ensures not only consistency and ease of use in the environment, but makes the environment user-proof. Unfortunately, sometimes when clients implement MCS or PVS, it doesn’t play well with their current applications. These hurdles can make a client want to abandon single image management, but we can utilize tools that are already built into the Active Directory environment to resolve these issues. Here's how.

How to Manually Populate the Software Cache in CommVault v11

[fa icon="pencil'] Posted by Dan Booth [fa icon="calendar'] June 28, 2016 [fa icon="tags'] Virtualization, Data Backup & Recovery, How To Guide, CommVault

In prior versions, the ability to populate the software cache was done automatically but this feature has been removed. But by manually populating the software cache, the push of agents in the environment can be done immediately after the upgrade of the CommCell versus waiting hours for the automatic download to finish.

In this post I’ll walk you through the steps required to populate the software cache using the Copy Software feature built into CommVault.

VMware Horizon 7 upgrade planned? Check your crypto!

[fa icon="pencil'] Posted by Kenneth Fingerlos [fa icon="calendar'] May 5, 2016 [fa icon="tags'] Virtualization, VMware, How To Guide, Cloud Computing, IT Solutions, VMware vCenter

Here at Lewan HQ we have a robust internal lab where we demo solutions and hardware for customers and train our team. The lab gives us the opportunity to actually touch and test products before evaluating or installing onsite for clients.

As part of our lab, we have a complete VMware Horizon Enterprise deployment with all the bells and whistles and integrated technologies from our other hardware and software partners. This allows us to do expanded testing beyond what the primary manufacturers can do.

Today that was integration testing for VMware Horizon 7, and I learned a few things I wish I'd known before I started. I hope this post saves you the time I spent troubleshooting cryptographic protocol issues and makes for a more seamless upgrade of your infrastructure!
