The new Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop 7.9 has a lot to offer and worth making the upgrade, but being at the front of the line to implement a new release can also come with the risk of a few bugs. Here’s one we've come across and a quick fix to resolve the error.

When talking to companies about EDM (Electronic Document Management, also referred to as ECM or Enterprise Content Management) the most common response I hear is “What we’re doing now is working for us, why change our paper filing system?”.

While this is may seem true, once we start talking further about how they record, manage, store and access their paper documents, three common pain points almost always surface. And with an EDM solution implemented, most of these companies see measurable improvements in employee efficiency and business management.

This year Citrix Synergy was hosted in Las Vegas, May 24-26, at the Venetian conference center. Myself and another engineer from Lewan attended and came back with our heads full of announcements, product updates and a look at what’s coming next. It’s going to be an exciting year for Citrix customers!

For those of you who couldn’t make it, or are still trying to digest all of the exciting and innovative announcements you heard while you were there, here is a recap.

If you’re running Citrix XenApp 6.0, or even 6.5, you should already know the importance of August 24, 2016. But if you don’t yet, this is the end of life (EOL) date for XenApp 6.0 (and for XenApp 6.5 for customers of who don't have Subscription Advantage), meaning security related Hotfixes, technical support and product downloads will no longer be available.

Here at Lewan HQ we have a robust internal lab where we demo solutions and hardware for customers and train our team. The lab gives us the opportunity to actually touch and test products before evaluating or installing onsite for clients.

As part of our lab, we have a complete VMware Horizon Enterprise deployment with all the bells and whistles and integrated technologies from our other hardware and software partners. This allows us to do expanded testing beyond what the primary manufacturers can do.

Today that was integration testing for VMware Horizon 7, and I learned a few things I wish I'd known before I started. I hope this post saves you the time I spent troubleshooting cryptographic protocol issues and makes for a more seamless upgrade of your infrastructure!

One of the most frequently asked questions we hear from customers is:

"When I print a document, why doesn't the color look the same as it does on my monitor?"

While there are many possible reasons the screen and output don't match, or that the printed colors are off, two common, but often overlooked, causes are printer calibration and paper type.

When these announcements cross my desk, I sometimes worry how many people actually pay attention, especially when the end of life date is still a year away.

In a perfect world—in any Citrix XenDesktop deployment—all of the applications install, license and run perfectly on a non-persistent desktop. Unfortunately, the world is not perfect and there are applications out there that, for whatever reason, will not work properly on a non-persistent desktop.
